नात्यन्तं सरलैर्भाव्यं गत्वा पश्य वनस्थलीम् ।
छिद्यन्ते सरलास्तत्र कुब्जास्तिष्ठन्ति पादपाः ॥
[अपने व्यवहार में बहुत सीधे ना रहे, वन में जो सीधे पेड़ पहले काटे जाते हैं, और जो पेड़ टेढ़े हैं वो खड़े हैं ।]
Do not be very upright in your dealings, as you would see in forest, the straight trees are cut down while the crooked ones are left standing.
कः कालः कानि मित्राणि को देशः कौ व्ययागमौ ।
कश्चाहं का च मे शक्तिरिति चिन्त्यं मुहुर्मुहुः ॥
[इन बातो को बार बार गौर करे…सही समय, सही मित्र, सही ठिकाना, पैसे कमाने के सही साधन, पैसे खर्चा करने के सही तरीके, आपके उर्जा स्रोत ।]
Consider again and again the following: the right time, the right friends, the right place, the right means of income, the right ways of spending, and from whom you derive your power.
यो ध्रुवाणि परित्यज्य अध्रुवं परिषेवते ।
ध्रुवाणि तस्य नश्यन्ति चाध्रुवं नष्टमेव हि ॥
[जो निश्चित को छोड़कर अनिश्चित का सहारा लेता है, उसका निश्चित भी नष्ट हो जाता है। अनिश्चित तो स्वयं नष्ट होता ही है।]
He who gives up what is imperishable for that which is perishable, loses that which is imperishable; and doubtlessly loses that which is perishable also.
श्लोकेन वा तदर्धेन तदर्धार्धाक्षरेण वा।
अबन्ध्यं दिवसं कुर्याद्दानाध्ययनकर्मभिः॥
[ऐसा एक भी दिन नहीं जाना चाहिए जब आपने एक श्लोक, आधा श्लोक, चौथाई श्लोक, या श्लोक का केवल एक अक्षर नहीं सीखा, या आपने दान, अभ्यास या कोई पवित्र कार्य नहीं किया।]
Let not a single day pass without your learning a verse, half a verse, or a fourth of it, or even one letter of it; nor without attending to charity, study and other pious activity.
प्रलये भिन्नमर्यादा भवन्ति किल सागराः ।
सागरा भेदमिच्छन्ति प्रलयेऽपि न साधवः ॥
[जिस सागर को हम इतना गम्भीर समझते हैं, प्रलय आने पर वह भी अपनी मर्यादा भूल जाता है और किनारों को तोड़कर जल-थल एक कर देता है; परन्तु साधु अथवा श्रेठ व्यक्ति संकटों का पहाड़ टूटने पर भी श्रेठ मर्यादाओं का उल्लंघन नहीं करता।]
At the time of the Pralaya (universal destruction) the oceans are to exceed their limits and seek to change, but a saintly man never changes.रूपयौवनसम्पन्ना विशालकुलसम्भवाः।
विद्याहीना न शोभन्ते निर्गन्धाः किंशुका यथा॥
[रूप और यौवन से सम्पन्न, उच्च कुल में उत्पन्न होकर भी विद्याहीन मनुष्य सुगन्धहीन फूल के समान होते हैं और शोभा नहीं देते।]
Though one be endowed with beauty and youth and born in noble families, yet without education they are like the Palasa flower which is void of sweet fragrance.
कामधेनुगुना विद्या ह्यकाले फलदायिनी।
प्रवासे मातृसदृशी विद्या गुप्तं धनं स्मृतम्॥
[विद्या अर्जन करना यह एक कामधेनु के समान है जो हर मौसम में अमृत प्रदान करती है। वह विदेश में माता के समान रक्षक अवं हितकारी होती है। इसीलिए विद्या को एक गुप्त धन कहा जाता है।]
Learning is like a cow of desire. It, like her, yields in all seasons. Like a mother, it feeds you on your journey, therefore learning is a hidden treasure.
दारिद्र्यनाशनं दानं शीलं दुर्गतिनाशनम्।
अज्ञाननाशिनी प्रज्ञा भावना भयनाशिनी॥
[दान दरिद्रता को नष्ट कर देता है। शील स्वभाव से दुःखों का नाश होता है। बुद्धि अज्ञान को नष्ट कर देती है तथा भावना से भय का नाश हो जाता है।]
Charity puts end to poverty; righteous conduct to misery; discretion to ignorance; and scrutiny to fear.
